Tom Flanagan: Assange should be assassinated
Tom Flanagan has called for the assassination of Julian Assange, Ecuador doesn’t want Assange either, and Assange’s lawyer says his client is being persecuted in Sweden.
Tom Flanagan is currently a Canadian political science professor at the University of Calgary. But this week, the former chief of staff to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that Assange should be assassinated by the U.S.
The remarks came during a CBC news program Tuesday evening. As transcribed by British news, Flanagan said: “I think Assange should be assassinated, actually. (laughs) I think Obama should put out a contract or use a drone or something…. I wouldn’t feel happy, uh, unhappy, if Assange disappeared.”
Interpol, reports NPR, has issued a Red Notice for his Assange’s questioning. But Assange better not head to Ecuador; the country has retracted its safe haven offer.
The offer by Kintto Lucas was retracted Tuesday. Lucas had said “We are open to giving [Assange] residency in Ecuador, without any problem and without any conditions”. “[The offer] has not been approved by Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino – or the president,” President Rafael Correa said in a news briefing yesterday.
Meantime, Assange’s lawyer Mark Stephens says that his client is being subjected in Sweden to a “a persecution and not a prosecution.”

Whas Flanagan did was absolutely unacceptable and a violation of Canadian law. He should not be forgiven for this, but forced to face a court of law. Actually, I'd like to see him deported to the U.S., where he hails from.
